Bank account for paying VAT in Spain
Payments to the Spanish Tax Authorities (AEAT) are subject to specific banking and payment requirements.
In many cases, payments must be processed through a bank that collaborates with the Spanish Tax Authorities (AEAT), and certain online payment methods may also require a Spanish digital certificate.
If you are unable to make the payment directly, hellotax may be able to facilitate the payment on your behalf.

📩 Paying Amounts Requested by the Spanish Tax Authorities
If you receive a Spanish tax notification requesting payment — for example, a penalty, surcharge, interest or other outstanding amount — the payment instructions may differ from those used for a regular VAT return.
The notification will normally specify:
- the amount payable
- the payment deadline
- the relevant payment reference
- instructions for making the payment
Payment Options
Depending on the notification, you may be able to:
Pay the Spanish Tax Authorities directly
Follow the payment instructions provided in the official notification.
Arrange payment through hellotax
Where supported, hellotax can facilitate the payment on your behalf. This can be particularly helpful where you do not have access to a suitable Spanish bank account or the required payment method.
⚠️ Important
Always check the payment deadline shown in your VAT information or Spanish tax notification.
Late payments may result in additional surcharges, interest or penalties.
If you are transferring funds to hellotax, please ensure that they are sent sufficiently in advance of the deadline. hellotax must receive and allocate the funds before they can be forwarded to the Spanish Tax Authorities.
For payments relating to an official tax notification, do not automatically transfer the amount to the regular VAT payment account without first checking the payment instructions. Different payment procedures or references may apply.
