Taking Over Your Existing French VAT Number
Welcome to hellotax! 🎉
If you already have a French VAT number and would like hellotax to take over your VAT compliance, we’ll need a few documents to get started.
This process is called a “VAT Takeover.” It means hellotax will become responsible for:
Preparing and filing your French VAT returns
Communicating with the French tax authorities (Service des Impôts des Entreprises – SIE)
Monitoring deadlines and ensuring your VAT registration remains compliant
*Please note we are unable to takeover using your current Fiscal Representative for NON EU companies. We would need you to first leave them then we can introduce you to our Fiscal Rep partner who can represent your company with the tax authority.
Below you’ll find the documents required and why they are necessary.
đź“„ Documents Required for a French VAT Takeover
| Document | Why We Need It |
|---|---|
| 1. French VAT Certificate (Attestation d’assujettissement à la TVA) | Confirms that your business is officially registered for VAT in France and shows your French VAT number issued by the tax office. |
| 2. French Tax Identification Number (Numéro fiscal / SIREN/SIRET if applicable) | The French tax office assigns identification numbers to your company. These allow us to connect your hellotax account to the correct tax authority and ensure filings are submitted correctly. |
3. VAT Filings for the Current Fiscal Year *Where applicable | We need copies of all VAT returns already submitted for the current year (e.g. CA3 or CA12). This ensures we avoid duplicate submissions and can prepare your annual return accurately. |
| 4. Takeover Date | This is the date from which hellotax will take responsibility for your VAT reporting. It ensures a clean transition from your previous tax agent or internal accounting team. |
| 5. Company Trade Register Extract (Kbis or equivalent) | Confirms your company’s legal registration and provides official information such as directors, legal form, and address. Required for compliance verification. |
| 6. Home Country VAT Certificate (if applicable) | If your business is VAT registered in its country of establishment, proof is required to confirm your cross-border trading status. |
| 7. Director’s Passport or ID | Required to verify the identity of the company’s legal representative, as requested by the French tax authorities. |
| 8. Articles of Association (Company Constitution / Statuts) | Confirms your company’s legal structure and who has signing authority. This may be requested for representation purposes. |
