At hellotax, we understand that there may be times when your business is not actively trading or making sales. However, VAT compliance obligations continue even during these periods. For this reason, we cannot pause your subscription.
Why Your Subscription Cannot Be Paused
Even if your company is not currently selling or generating revenue, the tax authorities still require VAT returns to be filed on a regular basis. This includes submitting nil VAT returns reports that show no sales or taxable activity during the period.
Tax offices do not suspend or “pause” VAT IDs. Once a VAT number is issued, the holder is expected to continue filing returns according to the country’s schedule (monthly, quarterly, or annually), regardless of trading activity.
Because of this, hellotax must continue:
- Preparing and submitting required VAT returns, even if they are nil.
- Monitoring tax office deadlines to ensure your account remains compliant.
- Maintaining your VAT registration status in each applicable country.
What Happens If You Stop Filing
Failing to submit VAT returns — even nil returns — can result in:
- Fines or penalties from tax authorities.
- Deactivation or suspension of your VAT number.
- Delays or complications in future filings or VAT reclaim processes.
